The Danger of American Religion
This short documentary film is one of the most chilling things I have ever seen. Granted most people would be loath to call $cientology a religion, but it is certainly a cult of beliefs.
How have we managed to let them take over Clearwater, Florida, a city the size of Springfield? And corrupt the police and city government to do thier bidding rather than enforce the laws of the country?
They did it the good old fashioned American way. They bought it.
As you watch this documentary you will be shaken to your very soul at how easy it is for Americans to be coopted by fanatics and crazies of any stripe, $cientologists, fundamentalists, domionists, .....

I watched the video with interest, and briefly researched the Clearwater/Scientology connection. The Scientologists were able to buy up the disintegrating downtown properties for bargain prices.
The voters of Clearwater rejected downtown revitalization plans on several occasions, because it would have involved increased tax dollars. They have no one to blame but themselves for the takeover of the Scientologists.
Doesn't this remind you of Springfield voters, who rejected the building of a convention center, etc. on several occasions. If not for the generosity of J.Q. Hammons, this town would still be stuck in the '50s.
I have had to sit on this for a day or so because I had never thought of it. I am no fan of the incestuous relationship between John Q and the city or MSU, however, I think you made an important point.
Maybe this is more significant than I realized.
